In dealing with Jesus' teaching about oaths, Terry demonstrates how the issues of society in the time of Jesus are the very issues we are still struggling with today. Like them, we desire to be seen as people of honesty, commitment, and integrity, Yet, as with many things in life, it is far easier to give the appearance of these virtues than it is to genuinely embrace them as an indispensable aspect of our lives as followers of Jesus. In God's Kingdom, honesty, commitment, and integrity make up the fabric of the lives of those who follow Jesus, to the extent that external formalities like oaths should not even be necessary any more.
