O Key of David, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel & The O Antiphons, Advent 5
“O Key of David and scepter of the House of Israel; you open, and no one can shut; you shut, and no one can open: come and lead the prisoners from the prison house, those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.” Terry reflects on this O Antiphon prayer, its place in Christ, the church, and the hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." As we pray, we address Christ as the Key of David, who has the authority to open the gates of Heaven and free those imprisoned by sin and death.
Series Information
Oh, the O Antiphons, what a delight,
They call upon Jesus, in titles so bright!
First comes Wisdom, so clever and wise,
Guiding our hearts, with truth in His eyes.
Then Adonai, the mighty Lord,
Leading us onward, with His powerful word.
Root of Jesse, from ancient days,
Bringing new life, in wondrous ways.
Key of David, unlocking the door,
To a kingdom of peace, forevermore.
Dayspring, oh light, so radiant and clear,
Chasing away, all darkness and fear.
King of Nations, uniting us all,
In His love, we stand tall.
Emmanuel, God with us, here to stay,
In our hearts, every day.
So remember these names, in this Advent season,
For they tell of Christ, and His glorious reason.
