Surely Not
Judgment stories are supposed to end one way — everything burns, nothing left standing. So when the crowd hears how this parable actually ends, they say the only thing that makes sense: “Surely not.” They’re half right. Something does end. But it’s not the vineyard. We fear that our failures are powerful enough to shut down whatever we’ve been entrusted with, a marriage, a calling, a friendship. This story asks a harder question: what if the thing was never depending on you to survive? Whose hands is it in right now — and are you still rooted where the fruit comes from?

Terry proclaims the one Gospel through the history, research, rememberings and faith expressed in the text of the Gospel According to Luke. Jesus himself is the good news expressed by Luke. Beginning with the birth narratives unique to Luke's presentation, the good news of the Kingdom explodes into faithful view as each account, teaching, parable and event lived out and offered by Jesus, the Messiah-King, is examined the way Luke seemingly examined Jesus in his own work. Here we find a Jesus to love, a Jesus to follow, and ultimately a Jesus to worship.
