About Us
Welcome to Countryside's home on the web!
Nothing can replace coming and sharing in the blessings of the Lord together as the church at Countryside. Nonetheless, we've sought to provide a place here on the web where you can get a few questions answered if you wish, and share in some of the flavor of our fellowship together. Thanks for stopping in to see what the Lord is doing here, among His people.
We meet in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Western Oregon. The Fellowship gathers in north Eugene, in the midst of charming Coburg — out in the country. Described by many as a community church, we are really more of a church that is a community. Our missional community is large with people traveling from a radius of 45 miles to be involved in the body.
Countryside Christian Fellowship is a body of believers desiring the fullness of Jesus, as we seek Him with undivided devotion. The Bible says that Godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6) that is the kind of Christian life we desire. We are devoted to the Lord through the study of His Word, in our fellowship with one another, in worship, which includes frequent opportunities to break bread together, and of course, to prayer (Acts 2:42.) As we gather, we find that we "are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit;" (2 Corinthians 3:18) ultimately helping each other and others experience hope, the Kingdom of God and the good news of Jesus.
Countryside is safe
Safe may not be a word that is thought of very often in a congregation, but it sure is one that we think of at Countryside. Coming to the Fellowship isn't risky — you won't be asked to do things or say things that will make you uncomfortable. Free from harm, burn out and worry, everyone — from the youngest baby to the oldest adult — can come and relax in an environment that is both safe and sound. From the parking lot to the nursery, we love the Lord by serving one another.
"Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings." - Psalm 17:8
Countryside is refreshing
At Countryside you'll be able to relax and be refreshed. In all of our busy-ness it is easy to get used up and be burdened! As we gather together at the Fellowship, to fellowship with one another and the Lord, we bless the Lord and each other, receive personal revival, spiritual renewal and rest for our souls as we together seek first the kingdom (Matthew 6:33.) Like the cool of the early morning, or a spring shower, you'll find yourself replenished from the details of life that may have emptied you. Freshened up and restored, we'll be ready in mind and in spirit to meet life, and God's call, head on.
"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God." - Psalm 42:1
Countryside is simple
We have sought to keep things simple, without a lot of infrastructures, strategies and programs. We haven't really adorned this, or embellished that, but have allowed the Spirit to keep things unassuming and uncomplicated. Countryside's style is simple, laid-back and intimate. From our worship which is both reverent and informal, yet expressed deeply and passionately; to our Bible teaching where we work our way through the Scriptures chapter by chapter, book by book, in a relaxed and often humorous way; to our deep commitment to community where we encourage one another as brothers and sisters in the Lord, the Fellowship is an unpretentious place to simply enjoy God. In fact, even the way we dress is simple, very casual and comfortable. Countryside is a place where we simply live life together.
"My heart is not proud, O Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul... - Psalm 131:1-2
Countryside is faithful
As a congregation of believers, we live our lives together faithful to God the Father, by the power and direction of the Spirit, in Jesus Christ. Gathering together for worship, for the reading and study of the Scriptures, for the breaking of bread, for fellowship with one another, for prayer — that's faithful. That's Countryside. But even more than that, we find what's completely faithful, and evidenced in the Bible, is our centering on following and imitating Jesus Christ by living out the greatest commandment: love God and love others. We’re His disciples. As disciples we’ve attached ourselves to a teacher, and we make our aim to become like that teacher, Jesus. It involves learning what He teaches, prioritizing what He prioritizes, embodying the character that He embodies, living as He lives, loving as He loves. It is a lifelong transformation of the whole person conforming to the image and likeness of Christ. In doing so we accomplish our reason for being here, worshipping and loving the Lord, and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." - Psalm 119:105
Countryside is all about Jesus
This is not just the bottom line for us, this is the only line. Everything begins and ends at the feet of Jesus. Colossians 3:2 admonishes us to "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." So, we "fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2) Jesus is safe, Jesus is refreshing, Jesus is simple, Jesus is Biblical. Join us. Taste and see that the LORD is good...(Psalm 34:8.)
